Homeowner and two dogs safely exit Hernando fire due to sounding smoke alarm

Citrus County Fire Rescue, Lecanto, Florida

Hernando, Florida - At 9:46 am on Jan. 18, Citrus County Fire Rescue was dispatched to an E. Sheridan Ln., Hernando residential fire.

The Engine 23 crew from the Kensington Fire Station arrived first on scene at 9:58 am to find an approximately 1,800 square foot, double wide mobile home 25% involved with fire and heavy smoke. Alerted by smoke alarms, the homeowner safely exited the residence with two dogs prior to the arrival of firefighters. The homeowner was evaluated and released on scene by Nature Coast EMS.  

Crew members initiated an offensive attack on the fire, and three firefighters entered the home to attack the fire from within. Power was deactivated at the external power pole breaker, and Duke Energy arrived on scene to remove the meter. The residence was searched to ensure that no one remained inside.

Fire extended into the attic, but was knocked down. Although the interior of the home was a total loss, crews assisted the homeowner with retrieving several personal items from the residence.      
 
The fire was called under control at 10:04 am, and crews cleared the scene at 12:03 pm. No injuries were reported. The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted about the fire, and the homeowner was provided with information to seek help from the American Red Cross.  
  
Other firestations and personnel that responded to the fire included Battalion Chief 1, the Engine 20 crew from Pine Ridge, the Engine 14 crew from Citrus Springs, the Rescue 7 crew from Connell Heights, and the Tanker 8 crew from Highlands.
