Homosassa woman killed in 3 vehicle, June 24, Lecanto crash

     According to a press release by the Florida Highway Patrol, a three vehicle traffic crash that occurred at 9:26 am on Wed. June 24, resulted in the death of a 65 year-old Homosassa woman who was driving a sports utility vehicle that was traveling east on Oak Park Blvd. in Lecanto, approaching Lecanto Hwy. (CR 491).
    The release stated that the woman failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Oak Park Blvd. and S. Lecanto Hwy. (CR 491) and entered into the path of the second vehicle involved in the crash, a tractor trailer rig traveling south on S. Lecanto Hwy., approaching Oak Park Blvd., that was driven by a 46 year-old man from Lakeland, FL, which struck the left side of the SUV, and dragged the vehicle into the northbound lanes of S. Lecanto Hwy.     
    Debris from the collision struck a third vehicle, a pickup truck, traveling north on S. Lecanto Hwy., approaching Oak Park Blvd., that was driven by a 47 year-old man from Trenton, FL. The release stated that the pickup truck was then struck by a highway traffic sign at the southeast corner of the intersection.
    The driver of the SUV, suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. The report stated that each of the three drivers was wearing a seatbelt restraint, and none carried a passenger. The release stated that the drivers of the other two vehicles received no injuries in the crash.
    In press releases, the FHP no longer lists the names of people or the specific models of the vehicles involved in traffic crashes to protect the privacy of the individuals involved in the crash.
