Bicyclist, struck by truck on US 41 in Inverness, FL, dies at area hospital

Inverness, Florida - At 6:25 pm on Tuesday, Dec. 22, a 51 year-old Inverness man riding a bicycle was struck by a pickup truck, and later died from his injuies at an area hospital. The incident occurred on U. S. Highway 41, north of Fort Cooper Rd., in Inverness. 

Accrding to a press release by the Florida Highway Patrol, the bicyclist was traveling south on US 41, in the outside lane, and had stopped in the roadway. As the bicyclist was wearing dark clothing, the bicycle had no lights, and the highway was dark and unlighted, the bicyclist was struck by a truck, which was traveling south on US 41 in the outside lane, approaching the intersection with Fort Cooper Rd.

The truck was driven by a 43 year-old Inverness woman who carried a passenger, a 32 year-old woman from Floral City, FL. Neither of the truck passengers was injuried, and each was wearing a seatbelt.

In its press releases, the FHP no longer identifies the people or the specific models of vehicles involved in traffic crashes, citing Marsy's Law as the reason.
