On July 9, at 7:15 pm, Austin McCray Stauffer, 30, of Inverness, was arrested by the Citrus County Sherriff's Office at the Inverness Walmart store.
A loss prevention officer for the store accused Mr. Stauffer of taking a set of gamer headphones and a pack of cookies from the shelf, then going to the Garden Center and placing the headphones through the barred outside gate, then going back inside the store and placing the box of now partially eaten cookies on a shelf near the self checkout area, then leaving the store, where he allegedly placed the headphones into his backpack. The arrest report stated that the headphones still had the security wire attached to them when Mr. Stauffer was taken into custody. The value of the cookies and headphones was listed at $88.98.
Mr. Stauffer is also accused of entering the store on June 23 with an empty plastic bag, placing a bottle of weed killer from a store shelf into the bag, and then of taking the item to the Customer Service department and receiving $46.90 for it.
He's accused of conducting a similar transaction at the store on July 6. The arrest report stated that he entered the store without merchandise, with a receipt, and he then took items off the shelf (bird feed, a blanket, and a pillow) to the Customer Service department with the receipt, and received cash for the items in the amount of $25.14.
Mr. Stauffer was charged with 3 counts of petit theft with a previous theft conviction ($3,000 bond).
