CCSO Seeking Help in Solving Case
The Citrus County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) is asking for the community's assistance in locating the person or persons responsible for a 12 year-old Lecanto boy being struck by a stray bullet on July 4, 2020.
According to a press release, around 9:00 pm, the boy was with his family, watching fireworks at the front of their residence, located in the area of W. Rolling View Place and W. Southern St., in Lecanto, when a stray bullet struck the child. It is unknown from what direction the projectile was fired.
According to Sgt. Lee Carey of the agency's Community Relations Division, the child is in stable condition. He stated that information as to the projectile's type and caliber is not being released at this time.
The press release stressed the importance of practicing gun safety at all times, such as making sure you are firing into an appropriate backstop, never firing rounds into the air, always pointing a gun in a safe direction, and never using or being in possession of a firearm while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
