Several cats escape from Nov. 27, Homosassa fire contained to bedroom

Homosassa, Florida - Citrus County Fire Rescue was dispatched to a structure fire at a S. Spring Song Ter., Homosassa residence at 1:54 am on Friday, Nov. 27, 2020. The caller infromed the agency that there was a fire in the back bedroom, and all occupants were outside the home.  

The Engine 3 crew from the Homosassa Fire Station arrived first on scene first at 2:02 am to find a single story wood frame structure, with smoke showing from the front, fire in the back bedroom with flames coming out of the window, and ammunition rounds discharging.  

The Engine 3 crew performed a quick attack from outside the bedroom window and bought the fire under control, then made entry and extinguished the fire to the contents of the room, and began overhaul.  

Firefighters confirmed that no people remained inside, but learned that cats were still inside the residence. Crew members from Rescue 7 with Connell Heights Fire Station found no people still inside the residence. They also found no deceased cats and determined that the cats had fled from the home or had been removed from the structure alive.  

The fire was called under control at 2:05 am, and crews cleared the scene at 4:15 am. No injuries were reported. The occupants of the residence were offered, but declined, assistance by the Red Cross.  The power company arrived on scene and disconnected the meter.  

Other personnel and fire stations that assisted with the fire included: Battalion Chief 2, Engine 18 from Sugarmill Woods, Squad 23 from Kensington and Tanker 20 from Pine Ridge.
