Oct. 2020 economic data released by Florida Department of Economic Opportunity

TALLAHASSEE, Florida - On Nov. 20, 2020, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity released economic data for the state for Oct., 2020.

The number of private-sector jobs increased 61,100, up 0.8% from September 2020.  Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.5% in October 2020, down 0.7% from the revised September 2020 rate, and up 3.6% from a year ago. Florida’s labor force was down 14,000 (-0.1%) over the month. 

There were 659,000 jobless Floridians out of a labor force of 10,109,000. The U.S. unemployment rate was 6.9% in October.

Florida’s seasonally adjusted total nonagricultural employment was 8,593,200 in October 2020, an increase of 51,600 jobs (+0.6%) over the month. The state lost 407,600 jobs over the year, a decrease of 4.5%. Nationally, the number of jobs fell 6.1% over the year.

October labor statistics reflect the continued effects of COVID-19 and the efforts to reopen businesses and services.
