On Nov. 16, marine mammal stranding biologists, staff members and volunteers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge, rescued a 6.5 feet-long emaciated male manatee in the Crystal River.
The manatee was reported to the FWC’s Wildlife Alert Hotline, 1-888-404-392, by local tour captains.
The team used specially designed capture gear to successfully capture the young manatee and transport him to ZooTampa at Lowry Park for rehabilitation.
