Former Levy County Landfill employee charged with stealing nearly $40,000 in landfill revenue

Bronson, Florida - On Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020, the Levy County Sheriff’s Office, Criminal Investigations Division arrested 57 year-old Wanda Sue Sheffield, of Bell, Florida, as the result of an investigation by the Levy County Finance Departmet that began in September of 2019 into monies being collected at the Levy County Landfill, located at NE 69th Ln. in Bronson.

When a discrepency was found in the analysis of numerous years of data, the Levy County Sheriff’s Office was contacted,  

During the investigation, numerous detectives worked with county officials and discovered, that over a period of approximately ten years, Ms. Sheffield, at the time a landfill employee, had been voiding scale transactions and using the money she collected for personal use. When supervisory staff first questioned Ms. Sheffield about her voided transactions, she resigned from her position at the landfill.

According to a press release by the LCSO, the detailed summary of transactions proved, that over this period of time, Sheffield had stolen nearly $40,000 in revenue from the landfuill.

Prior to her arrest, detectives interviewed Ms. Sheffield. She admitted that she had intentionally voided scale transactions for the purpose of taking the money for her personal use.
 
Sheffield was arrested at her home in Bell (Gilchrist County), Florida and transported to the Gilchrist County Jail in Trenton, Florida, charged with grand theft of over $20,000 dollars, a second degree felony, with her bond set at $25,000. She will be transferred to the Levy County Detention Bureau after her first appearance in court.
