Cigarette butt determined cause of Hernando mobile home fire

Hernando, Florida - At 2:39 am on Monday, Oct. 19, 2020, Citrus County Fire Rescue a was dispatched to a fire at a N. Page Ave., Hernando, FL residence.
Engine 5 from the Hernando Fire Station arrived first on scene, at 2:47 am, to find a double wide mobile home heavily involved in fire. The fire was called under control at 3:07 am, and crews cleared the scene at 6:20 am. The fire was determined to be a accident, caused by a cigarette butt receptacle that had been left on the front porch.
The Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced residents, 4 adults and 1 child. There were no injuries.
Other fire stations and administrative personnel that assisted with the fire included Battalion Chief 1, Squad 23 from Kensington, Engine 20 from Pine Ridge, Engine 14 from Citrus Springs, Tanker 8 from Highlands, and Rescue 7 from Rock Crusher.
