On July 4, at 7:20 pm, William Wayne Gregory, II, 32, of Oxford, Florida, was arrested by the CCSO, charged with boating under the influence, first offense ($1,000 bond), during the stop of a vessel at Fort Island Gulf Beach in Crystal River.
The vessel stop was conducted due to the complaint by witnesses, that the boat operator had fired a handgun into the mangroves at Sandy Hook, within the swim zone of the beach, which was clearly marked with floating buoys indicating that no vessels were allowed in the swim area.
The arrest report stated that deputies observed numerous Coors Light beer cans in Mr. Gregory's boat, that Mr. Gregory smelled of alcohol, and his eyes were bloodshot. He also told deputies that he'd been drinking alcohol and pulling a small jon boat for his friend, who was passed out on the floor of the jon boat.
A deputy reported, that after Gregory was transported to the parkig lot at Fort Island Gulf Beach, he was staggering in the parking lot, and refused to submit to field sobriety testing.
At the Citrus County Detention Facility, his breath alcohol level was tested at 1.17 (greater than the legal limit of 0.08). The report stated that his boat was towed by G.S. Auto.
