Chiefland man dies as result of crash with tractor/trailer rig on US-19 in ChieflandĀ

Chiefland (Levy County), Florida - An 83 year-old man from Chiefland died on October 22, 2024, as the result of a traffic collision that occurred at 3:45 p.m. on U.S. Highway 19 at the intersection of County Road 347 (NW 6oth Street) in Chiefland.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was driving a sport utility vehicle (SUV), traveling east on County Road 347, approaching U.S. Highway 19. The SUV stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of U.S. Highway 19, and proceeded into the intersection. This resulted in the left side of the SUV being struck by the front of a tractor/trailer rig that was traveling south on U.S. Highway 19.
After the collision, both vehicles traveled onto the west shoulder of U.S. Highway 19, where the tractor/trailer rig rolled over, and both vehicles came to rest.
The driver of the tractor/trailer rig, a 32 year-old man frfom Reddick, Florida, received minor injuries.
Both drivers were wearing a seatbelt.
