Crystal River, Florida – About 1:09 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a residence, located on North Casula Point in Crystal River, due to a reported fire.

The first unit arrived at the location to find a one-story block home with heavy fire involvement, primarily in the attic area. All the occupants of the home had already safely evacuated the home and were outside the home when firefighters arrived; no pets were inside the home.

Fire crews quickly established a water supply and began an interior attack to extinguish the fire in the attic and surrounding areas. Through coordinated efforts, firefighters successfully brought the fire under control and prevented it from spreading to nearby structures.

The initial response included the Crystal River Fire Department’s Engine 1 and Squad 7 from the Rock Crusher fire station in Crystal River. Additional units providing aid included Engine 20 and Tanker 20 from the Pine Ridge fire station, Ladder 23 from the Kensington fire station, Tanker 14 from the Citrus Springs fire station, and Engine 9 from the DeRosa fire station. These crews worked together to conduct fire suppression, searches, overhaul, and rehabilitation efforts. No injuries were reported to the residents or fire rescue personnel. The power company arrived at the home to disconnect the power.

An investigation determined that the fire originated in the attic, above the kitchen area, and was caused by an unintentional electrical malfunction. The homeowners, who had recently purchased the property and were in the process of renovating it, declined the assistance of the Red Cross. Crews assisted the residents with retrieving personal belongings before they left the property.

Although the fire was contained to the attic, it caused smoke and heat damage throughout the home, which resulted in damages to the home estimated at 80%.
