At 5:49 am on Saturday, October 3, 2020, Citrus County Fire Rescue was dispatched to two residential structure fires at Big Oaks River Resort on W. River Rd. in Inglis, FL.
Engine 9 from the DeRosa Fire Station arrived first on scene at 6:02 am to find two recreational vehicles (RVs) on fire. One RV was 100% involved in fire, and the other was 50% involved.
One RV was unoccupied, according to the report, but the other RV was occupied and the occupants were safely removed with the help of bystanders. Two dogs remined inside the RV but were safely removed by crews, who also made an aggressive attack due to the threat of fire to surrounding exposures. The two dogs were turned over to Nature Coast EMS for supplemental oxygen treatment. Further searches returned negative results for any other occupants of the RVs.
The fire was called under control at 6:15 am, and crews cleared the scene at 8:43 am. Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced occupants and dogs. The Florida State Fire Marshal was called to investigate the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported.
Other fire stations that assisted with the fire included Connell Heights, Homosassa, and Citrus Springs.
