Bronson, Florida - On May 29, 2025, 43 year-old Clifton Spivey of Cedar Key, Florida was sentenced to serve a life sentence in the Florida Department of Corrections, as the result of prosecutors with the State Attorney’s Office 8th Judicial Circuit presenting the evidence against Spivey at a jury trial for the sexual abuse of a child.  In February 2025, a Spivey was indicated by a grand jury.

Spivey was arrested by Levy County Sheriff's Office Detective Blake Landfair on October 15, 2024 on numerous charges that included two counts of sexual assault or battery of a victim under the age of 12. two counts of lewd or lascivious behavior or molestation of a victim under the age of 12, resisting or obstructing a law enforcement officer without violence, contempt of court by violating an injunction for protection against domestic violence, and criminal contempt of court.

Since his arrest, Spivey has been in custody at the Levy County Detention Bureau in Bronson, Florida.

"The detectives assigned to the LCSO Criminal Investigation Division dedicate long hours to investigations of child sexual abuse," said LCSO Lieutenant Scott Tummond. "They will tirelessly pursue, arrest and assist the State Attorney’s Office to ensure a successful prosecution of those who choose to prey on children. Individuals who commit these crimes face capital felony sentences which could mean life in prison. Sheriff (Bobby) McCallum, along with the entire LCSO team, is grateful to those who served on the jury and their verdict. We hope and pray this will aid the victim and their family in finding peace."

"The safety and security of children who are victimized by adults holds an unparalleled importance to the law enforcement professionals of the Levy County Sheriff’s Office," said Lieutenant Tummond. "Detectives must utilize extreme patience, tact, and determination when investigating these heinous crimes. Just as one trial concludes (see above case), detectives Cody Weaver and Shelby Kilian responded to another complaint of child sexual abuse."

In this case, 24 year-old Chiane Carter of Williston, Florida and Gainesville, Florida is accused of sexually abusing a child under the age of 12. An investigation into the allegations against her discovered evidence of this crime. After numerous hours of investigative work, Levy County Sheriff's Office detectives Weaver and Kilian arrested Carter. She was charged with two counts of child sexual battery and lewd and lascivious battery. She is being held without bond at the Levy County Detention Bureau in Bronson.

The next step of this process is the presentation of the case to a grand jury by prosecutors with the State Attorney's Office, 8th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in seeking indictment of Carter. The work is not complete, once the grand jury returns with a True Bill, as many efforts will have to be made to prepare the case for trial.

"LCSO detectives are no strangers to trial preparation and will give every effort to see this case through," said Lieutenent Tummond.
