Hernando mobile home total loss from Sept. 28 fire; firefighter receives minor injury

Hernando, Florida - At 7:00 pm on Monday, Sept. 28, Citrus County Fire Rescue was dispatched to a residential fire on N. Bighorn Pt. in Hernando. The Hernando Fire Station crew arrived first on scene at 7:14 pm to find a single wide mobile home 50% involved in fire. 

Bystanders advised firefighters that the home was not occupied. Due to live power lines that were down, the power company was notified. The fire was called under control at 7:22 pm, and crews cleared the scene at 9:56 pm. One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was evaluated by Nature Coast EMS. 

The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced tenant, three children and one dog, as the home is uninhabitable. Crews cleared the scene at 9:56 pm. 

Other fire stations that assisted in the extinguishment of the fire, with firefighters and equipment, included Kensington, Pine Ridge, Citrus Springs and the Inverness Highlands fire stations.
