Florida Department of Education reaches milestone

$200 million awarded to support workforce education

Tallahassee, Fla., May 19, 2025 – The Florida Department of Education, under the leadership of Commissioner Manny Diaz, Jr., awarded $12 million through the Workforce Development Capitalization Incentive Grant Program (Workforce CAP) to expand workforce education programs. This latest $12 million investment strengthens eight programs statewide, equipping students with the skills needed to excel in Florida’s agriculture, healthcare and technology. With this round of funding, the state’s total investment in workforce education initiatives under Workforce CAP has reached $200 million since its inception in 2023—reinforcing Florida’s commitment to building a highly skilled workforce.

“...Florida has prioritized investments in career and technical education which lead to economic success for our students and our economy,” said Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. “With this $12 million investment, we are strengthening workforce education programs while creating new opportunities for students to gain the skills needed for high-demand careers.”

Workforce CAP funding supports the creation and expansion of workforce development programs across the state, offering students in high school and post-secondary education programs hands-on training in high-demand industries.

Institutions receiving the Workforce CAP Grant Awards include:

  • Baker County School District ($1,700,000): Funding will support programs in Agritechnology, Horticulture Science and Services and Technical Agriculture Operations.
  • Clay County School District ($1,700,000): Funding will expand programs in Agricultural Communications, Horticulture Science and Services, Agritechnology, Principles of Agribusiness and Management, Veterinary Assisting, Natural Resources and Agriculture Biotechnology.
  • Dixie County School District ($1,700,000): Funding will enhance Agritechnology programs.
  • Hendry County School District ($1,700,000): Funding will support Agritechnology, Technical Agriculture Operations and Food Science programs.
  • Hernando County School District ($1,700,000): Funding will launch new Agritechnology programs.
  • Levy County School District ($1,700,000): Funding will support new Agritechnology programs.
  • Sumter County School District ($1,700,000): Funding will enhance programs in Agriculture Biotechnology, Agritechnology, Animal Science and Services, Horticulture Science and Services, Landscape Operations and Technical Agriculture Operations.
  • Florida State University - Lab School ($455,792): Funding will enhance programs in Nursing Assistant (Acute and Long-Term Care), Commercial Art Technology and Game/Simulation/Animation Visual Design.

The Workforce CAP Grant Program is instrumental in establishing and expanding CTE programs that lead to industry-recognized certifications on the CAPE Industry Certification Funding List. These funds ensure that students across Florida have access to the tools, resources and training necessary to thrive in emerging industries and meet the demands of Florida’s growing economy.
