Motorhome traveling on CR 491 in Holder catches fire; fire extinguished with no injuries reported

Holder, Florida – At 1:05 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to the intersection of N. Lecanto Hwy (County Road 491) and N. Florida Avenue (U.S. Highway 41) in Holder (northwest of Hernando, Florida) due to a report of a fire that involved a large recreational vehicle (RV). The caller advised that two people may be trapped inside the RV.
Fire rescue arrived at the location to find an active fire involving a 2020 Ford Hurricane, Class A (luxury) RV. Fortunately, the occupants had safely exited the RV, with no reported injuries.
The first report of the fire was received from the Rescue Unit from Citrus Springs Fire Station #14, which was stopped at the intersection when the crew noticed light smoke showing from the RV. Dispatch was immediately notified. An off-duty Battalion Chief with Citrus County Fire Rescue, who was also passing by the location, stopped to assess the situation and assumed initial command of the fire scene.
Responding fire rescue units found the RV fully involved in flames within the northbound lane of U.S. Highway 41, just south of the County Road 491 intersection in Holder. By 1:12 p.m., Engine 14 from Citrus Springs Fire Station had arrived at the location and quickly initiated fire suppression by applying water to the fire. Engine 20 from Pine Ridge Fire Station also assisted with the water supply and firefighting efforts. The fire was brought under control by 1:14 p.m., and the last unit cleared the scene at 2:38 p.m.
When the fire was fully extinguished and overhaul operations were completed, the scene was turned over to the Citrus County Sheriff's Office.
The area of origin was identified as the RV's engine compartment, though the cause of ignition remains undetermined following the on-scene investigation.
The property loss was estimated at approximately $155,000.
