Citrus Springs shooting suspect later found deceased of apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound

Citrus County, Florida - On the afternoon of May 8, 2025, deputies with the Citrus County Sheriff's Office responded to a location of W. Fairtree Lane in Citrus Springs, Florida due to a report of a domestic altercation.

When deputies arrived at the location, they heard a gunshot, and quickly secured the scene to assess the situation. A preliminary report revealed, that during the altercation, the suspect fired a weapon at the victim, and immediately fled from the location. The person who remained at the location sustained no injuries during the altercation and shooting.

A K-9 (canine) unit assisted deputies in tracking the suspect and led deputies to a wooded area, near the fence line of the property, where the suspect was found, deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The identity of the suspect is being withheld, pending notification of the next of kin.

"This was a tragic event, and our thoughts are with all those affected," said Citrus County Sheriff David Vincent. "Our deputies responded swiftly and with professionalism, ensuring the safety of others in the area. We are committed to conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident."
