Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR)
Homosassa, Florida – At approximately 1:40 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, Citrus County Fire Rescue received a report of a large vehicle fire on S. Willard Ave. in Homosassa. The caller reported that he noticed a fire that appeared to originate in the right front section of the trailer’s ceiling, and he had removed the owner's service dog from the trailer.
While enroute to the location, fire rescue personnel observed a large column of smoke rising from the location. First responders arrived at the location to find a travel trailer fully involved in active fire, and power lines down on the right front of the trailer. Duke Energy arrived on scene and secured the power.
Firefighters observed that propane tanks on-site were off-gassing. At 1:59 p.m., a handline was used to the front and left of the trailer for a defensive attack. On the right side of the trailer, one structure was exposed to the fire, and a second handline was used at that location. The fire was reported to be extinguished and in overhaul at 2:03 p.m. Crews completed overhaul operations before clearing the scene.
Firefighters conducted a primary search of the involved travel trailer and also of the exposed structure, which were both confirmed to be clear of occupants. The homeowner later arrived at the location and confirmed that no one was inside the structure, and his dog had been safely removed by a neighbor. The owner told officials that he and his girlfriend had left the trailer, just ten minutes prior to the fire, to take a shower.
The cause and origin of the fire was undetermined at the time of the press release, but it did not appear to be suspicious.
The fire resulted in a total loss of the travel trailer and its contents. Victim advocate services were requested to assist the one displaced adult resident.
Another recreational camper, located behind the travel trailer destroyed by fire, sustained minor damage due to the fire.
