During the night of January 20, 2025, Deputy Danner, a Citrus County Sheriff's Office deputy on patrol in Beverly Hills, Florida, noticed a motorcycle, with no license plate attached to it, on the roadway making a turn.

When the deputy turned on his overhead lights in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop on the motorcycle, the driver took off rather than stop. However, the pursuit was short-lived, as the driver, Cody McKendree, lost control of the motorcycle on N. Vonnegut Pt. and discarded the motorcycle to take off running. He was quickly apprehended, one street over on N. Michener Pt., by Deputy Danner's K9 partner Cairo.

During a search of McKendree's motorcycle, a Colt 1911 handgun was found. Deputy Danner learned that McKendree is a convicted felon, convicted of burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, and he's currently on felony probation.

McKendree was placed under arrest, charged with fleeing from a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, resisting an officer without violence, operating a vehicle without a valid driver's license, having no motor vehicle registration, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and operating a motorcycle without endorsement.
