Pedestrian dies after being struck by truck/run over by RV, on SR 44 in Lecanto

Lecanto, Florida - A 65 year-old man from Inverness, Florida died as the result of a traffic accident that occurred at 6:21 pm on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, in Lecanto.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man from Inverness was standing in an eastbound lane of State Road 44 (Gulf to Lake Highway), near the intersection of North Maynard Avenue, helping to direct the driver of an Allegro recreational vehicle (RV) to reverse out of an RV park, when he was struck by a Dodge pickup truck. The driver, a 30 year-old man from Dunnellon, Florida, was traveling east on State Road 44 and failed to observe the man standing in the roadway. When he was struck by the truck, the man fell to the ground and was then run over by the RV, driven by a 64 year-old man from Montgomery, Alabama. The man suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.
