Chiefland, Florida - A two-vehicle traffic crash that occurred at 4:17 pm on October 17, 2024, in Chiefland, resulted in the death of one of the drivers, a 63 year-old woman from Chiefland. The crash occurred at the intersection of NW U.S. Highway 19 and County Road 347 (NW 60th Street).
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the Chiefland woman who was killed was driving a sport utility vehicle (SUV), traveling east on County Road 347 (NW 60th Street) approaching NW U.S. Highway 19, when she traveled into the path of a van, driven by a man from Floyd Knobs, Indiana, that was traveling south on NW U.S. Highway 19, approaching County Road 347.
As a result, the front of the van collided with the left side of the SUV. Due to the impact, the SUV rotated and came to a rest facing east in the middle of NW U.S. Highway 19, while the van traveled off the roadway onto the right shoulder and came to rest facing west.
The driver of the SUV, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced deceased on the scene of the crash. The driver of the van, who was wearing a seatbelt, received minor injuries.
