Citrus County, Florida - On Monday, Sept. 14, 2020, the Citrus County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) was contacted in regard to an alleged sexual assault of a patient at a local hospital by a staff member.

The victim told the responding deputy that on Friday, Sept. 11, a registered nurse entered her hospital room and sexually assaulted her while administering medication. The suspect was identified as 64 year-old Mark Miskar, of Homosassa.

Detective Arnold with the CCSO Special Victim's Unit immediately responded to the hospital to conduct an investigation, and gathered additional evidence that supported the victim's allegations.

When Detective Arnold spoke with Mr. Miskar at his residence, Miskar admitted he'd sexually assaulted the victim, according to a press release. He was placed under arrest, charged with sexual battery, with his bond set at $10,000. At this time, investigators believe this is an isolated incident.

"The detectives within the Citrus County Sheriff's Office Special Victim's Unit work tirelessly to seek justice for the most vulnerable victims within our community," said Sheriff Mike Prendergast. "Medical professionals have taken an oath to do no harm and heal those in need, and Miskar betrayed the trust of not only his patient, but also his fellow medical professionals and our community as a whole."

If you are a victim of sexual assault, there are a wide variety of local, state, and national resources available to help you.
