Press Release by Levy County Sheriff's Office, Bronson, Florida

Levy County, Florida - On Monday, September 14, 2020 the Levy County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) responded to yet another shooting in Williston - the fifth shooting incident reported in the Williston area since August 28.

This time, the shooting was reported by the resident of a home on NE 40th Street in east Williston. The victim reported hearing the gunfire around 5:00 am, but she did not discover that her home and car was damaged until after daylight.

LCSO detective and Crime Scene Units discovered the homeowner’s car was twice hit by bullets, and a third bullet had gone through the master bedroom window. Detectives traced the trajectory of the bullet that passed through the bedroom window and determined that it could easily have hit the occupants inside the bedroom. A toddler was inside the home at the times of the shooting.

This is the same neighborhood where two shootings occurred this past weekend, on Friday, Sept. 11 and Sat., Sept. 12, but with no reported injuries. One person was shot at an Aug. 28 open house party attended by approximately 60 juveniles on private property in south Willison, and 6 people (all from out of the area) were shot at a block party attened by an estimated 500-750 people, held on Sept. 5  in east Williston near the intersection of CR 218 and US Alternate 27.

A juvenile who was in possession of a stolen gun was arrested as the suspect of the Aug. 28 shooting, but no other suspects have been identified.

The LCSO is diligently working to stem violence in the community east of Williston, but the agency says it is imperative that they receive assistance from members of the community, and is seeking any person who has knowledge of these shooting incidents. The agency encourages everyone to report all suspicious persons, vehicles or activity at 352-486-5111 or 9-1-1. Reports can also be made anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-877-349-8477.
