N. Pearl Pt., Hernando, FL home a total loss from fire; no injuries reported

Hernando, Florida – At 4:25 am on Saturday, September 21, 2024, Citrus County Fire Rescue crews responded to a residence located on North Pearl Point in Hernando due to a reported fire.

Responders arrived at the location to find a double wide mobile home fully engulfed in flames. A defensive strategy was quickly established to protect surrounding areas, including overgrown brush and nearby vehicles. Fire crews initiated extinguishment efforts from several sides of the home to contain the fire’s spread.

The power was secured, and additional resources were brought in to support the firefighting operations. A thorough assessment revealed heavy fire activity, which made it unsafe to conduct a search due to hazardous conditions.

By 5:11 am, the fire was brought under control, and the mop-up phase began, which was extensive due to the amount of debris and hazardous materials present. Additional units arrived to relieve the original responders, focusing efforts on extinguishing remaining hot spots and ensuring safety. All hazards were addressed, and the remaining units were released from the scene at 10:25 am. No injuries were reported.

The property was a total loss. While rehabilitation efforts were established for the firefighting teams on scene, victim advocate services were contacted to assist the displaced residents.

Firefighters from the Pine Ridge, Kensington, Connell Heights, Hernando, Highlands and Citrus Springs fire stations responded to the scene, along with a rescue unit, the rehab unit, and a safety captain.
