On Wednesday morning, September 11, 2024, Chiefland Middle High School received multiple phone calls from people concerned about threatening social media posts on an undisclosed neighboring school district's social media page that described potential security threats to the school.
Law enforcement officers from the Levy County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) and the Chiefland Police Department (CPD) immediately arrived on campus to conduct an investigation.
Chiefland Middle High School and Chiefland Elementary School were both placed on a “Secure Campus” status as a precautionary measure, although the law enforcement agencies have NO EVIDENCE indicating any valid threat, as of 9:05 am Wednesday.
"Additional updates will be forthcoming," said LCSO Lt. Scott Tummond in a joint press release by the sheriff's office and school board on Wednesday morning. "Thank you for your patience and understanding."
