Shawn Orr, 61, of Archer, FL, was arrested by the Levy County Sheriff's Office (LCSO), Sept. 8, 2024, charged with negligent manslaughter other than by a motor vehicle (no bond).
On Sept. 8, 2024, LSCO deputies responded to a location near NW 110th St, in Archer, due to the report of a woman who was possibly deceased. The arrest report stated that deputies had concerns that the woman's death was not a natural death due to the condition and location of the woman's body. The woman's body had sustained severe trauma, and was located in a wooded area near a homemade driveway. The trauma to the woman's body included gashes, bruises, puncture wounda above her right eye and on her right cheek, skin tears to her extremities, internal damage, and fractures to her left ribcage.
According to the arrest report, Shawn Orr told deputies, that on Friday evening, he'd last seen the woman, his paramour, when she'd left the residence, in anger, due to his alcohol use that evening and the previous three days. He told deputies that she hides when he drinks because he becomes violent. Orr told a deputy that he didn't see the woman on Saturday, and made an assumption that she'd gone elsewhere, and when he hadn't heard from her that morning, he'd gone to the location, and when he drove down a driveway they don't use, he noticed her body in the woods. Later, Ott told a deputy that he'd thrown a glass table, an end table, and a lamp during the altercation, but denied that he'd hit the deceased woman.
The report stated that Ott made numerous inconsistent statements as to whether or not he'd hit the deceased victim with his vehicle, and mentioned that he could have taken her to the hospital. On one occasion, Ott told deputies that he didn't think he'd hit her with the vehicle, but he may have backed up over her, as he thought he'd hit a log. The arrest report stated that Orr's vehicle had damages consistent with being driven in a wooded area. Orr also mentioned to a deputy that someone else may have run over the victim and taken her purse. Ott also told deputies that a relative of his had been at the location.
Ott's relative told deputies that Ott had texted him that he would either be in the E.R. or dead. He said that Ott had also called him, about 10:30 on Friday night, asking him to come over and help him find his keys and the woman's purse.
UPDATE: According to a Sept. 11, 2024 press release, the female victim is a 68 year-old Bronson, FL resident, whose injuries appear to be consistent with being run over by a vehicle. Detectives learned that Ott and the victim had a history of violence, which became worse when Ott consumed alcohol. Orr told detectives that he and the victim got into a fight on Friday evening because of his drinking, but she left the home to stay with family nearby. Orr made no attempt to find or call her on Saturday; instead, he continued to drink. He did not try to find her until Sunday afternoon when he discovered her body. Evidence located at the scene and the home Orr shared with the victim suggested that Orr intentionally ran the victim over on Friday evening. Anyone who has information which could aid this investigation is asked to call Detective Ryan Sullivan at 352-486-5111 ext. 360.
