St. Petersburg, Florida - A U.S. Coast Guard 29-foot Response Boat-Small II boat crew from Station St. Petersburg rescued a person from the water in Tampa Bay Friday, Sept. 11. He was located in the water, 150 yards from a vessel that was going in circles near MacDill Air Force Base. The rescue was in response to watchstanders receiving notification from a nearby tug of the vessel going in circles with no one aboard. With assistance from a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office marine unit, the crews were able to stop the vessel and take it into tow. The person rescued from the water, who had no medical problems, was taken to Gandy boat ramp.
