Chiefland crash on US 19, results in one fatality and one serious injury

Levy County, Florida - A traffic crash that occurred in Chiefland, Florida at 10:20 pm on Monday, August 5, 2024, resulted in serious injuries to the driver of a motorcycle and the death of his passenger, both 41 years-old, the driver from Trenton, Florida and the passenger from Gainesville, Florida. The driver of the sedan involved in the crash, a 28 year-old woman from Branford, Florida, was not injured in the crash.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on U.S. Highway 19, 1 mile north of NW 20th Avenue. The scooter, with two occupants, was traveling north on U.S. Highway 19 in the right lane, and the sedan was also traveling north on US-19, also in the right lane, approaching the scooter from the rear. The sedan struck the rear of the scooter with its front. 

The rear passenger of the scooter sustained fatal injuries during the crash and was pronounced deceased on the scene by Levy County Fire Rescue. 

The scooter driver, who suffered serious injuries, was transported to Shands UF Health Hospital in Gainesville, Florida for medical treatment.

Neither of the scooter passengers was wearing a helmet, and the driver of the sedan was wearing a seatbelt, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, and the incident is pending investigation.
