At approximately 8:00 a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024, the Levy County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) responded to a residence located at 8770 NW 168 Place in Fanning Springs, Florida, due to a report of a tree that had fallen on the home.

According to a LCSO press release, a 13 year old boy died as the result of being crushed while inside the home; no one else was injured.

Levy County Sheriff Bobby McCallum responded to the scene to offer his condolence to the family.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with this family as they deal with this tragedy," said LCSO Lieutenant Scott Tummond. "We encourage everyone to use extreme caution as they begin to assess and clean up the damage. Downed powerlines and falling trees are among the many hazards. One life is too many. Please be safe."
