The arrest report stated, that at 4:00 pm on July 3, 2024, a deputy met with a man at the Otter Creek Post Office, due to his complaint that he'd been the victim of an assault with a firearm on the roadway in front of a N. Otter Creek Ave. residence. The man said he was visiting the area from Illinois and wanted to let his eight year-old child play at Tube Town (which he'd seen on the Tube Town channel on YouTube), but it was closed, so they signed the guest book and left. He told the deputy that they drove down the road a bit, then turned around to exit onto State Road 24, and soon heard someone screaming. He said he recognized the person as John Cook from "What the Hale?" videos on YouTube - and they had a verbal exchange, something to the effect that Cook said "Do whatever you want," and he replied, "What are you talking about?" The man said he explained they were looking at Tube Town and they weren't from Otter Creek, and Cook replied, "You're going to lose anyway," and he told Cook they were leaving. The man claimed that Cook pulled a gun from his right pocket and pointed it at them (he, his daughter and a female front seat passenger) and he asked Cook what he was doing with the gun as he drove away. He said that Cook was standing on his property when the exchange took place. The man told the deputy that he hadn't recorded the incident.
The deputy went to Cook's residence and blew his air horn to get his attention. Cook came to the patrol vehicle and spoke with the deputy. Cook told the deputy that a white car had driven down his road, and the driver had said something to the effect of, "Get a life maggot," and the driver had pointed something out of his window that may have been a gun, but he didn't know if it was. He denied that he'd pointed a gun at the man driving the car. Signs in Cook's yard stated, "Cameras," that were pointed in a direction they would have captured the incident. However, Cook said the cameras had been taken down to charge at the time the incident had occurred, so they had not recorded the incident.
Deputies spoke with Cook again, and he eventually admitted that he'd pulled a gun from his pocket due to the driver pointing something out of the car window, but he said he'd never pointed it at the people inside the vehicle. During a search of the residence, a gun was recovered.
