On Thursday morning July 11, 2024, deputies with the Levy County Sheriff’s Office Patrol and Criminal Investigations divisions executed a search warrant at the home of 60 year-old John Cook in Otter Creek. Florida. The search warrant had been issued due to allegations by three people who had visited Otter Creek during the previous week, that Cook had threatened them with a gun.
Prior to the search warrant being served, deputies did not have sufficient evidence to arrest Mr. Cook, due to conflicting statements by the victims and lack of evidence. However, during the search of Cook's home, deputies found unspecified evidence of the assault, and a firearm that matched the description by the victims of the firearm used in the assault.
Cook was booked into the Levy County Detention Bureau, charged with aggravated assault. His bond was set at $75,000.
