Dunnellon, Florida — At 2:32 pm on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to N. Velveteen Pt. in Dunnellon due to a reported fire.

Firefighters arrived at the location to find a 672 square foot, single wide mobile home with smoke visible. A camper trailer on the property was fully involved with fire. The majority of the fire was concentrated in the camper. The fire extended from the camper to the exterior siding and wall insulation of the adjacent mobile home.

Firefighters confirmed the absence of occupants within both the mobile home and camper. The fire was extinguished in the mobile home, camper, and surrounding areas, and mop-up operations were completed by 3:59 pm.

The residence appeared abandoned and non-livable, due to several windows missing, an unlocked front door, the yard filled with trash and debris, and no vehicles in the driveway.

An assessment revealed that the power had tripped at the main, with significant heat damage to the meter. The power company (WREC) arrived on scene to address power issues, determining that power was available to the meter, but had tripped at the main. Power was disconnected at the nearest pole and rolled back from the structure.

No witnesses were present, and officials were unable to reach the owner of the property and moblie home. The main residence sustained limited fire damage, primarily to the exterior corner and corresponding interior wall covering. Minor smoke damage within the structure was estimated at approximately 10%.

It was confirmed that the fire started within the camper, near the middle of the unit. The camper was deemed a complete loss. The camper trailer had no identifiable markings due to heavy fire damage. It was a tow-behind style camper, approximately 20 feet long, with water and electric cords running to the camper from the residence.

Firefighters from the Homosassa Trail, DeRosa and Citrus Springs fie stations arrived on scene, along with a Battalion Chief, and a Rescue Unit.
