Hernando, Florida — At 11:01 am on Monday, June 3, 2024, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to Grand Living at Citrus Hills, located at 850 W. Norvell Bryant Highway in Hernando, Florida due to a report of a commercial fire alarm. The fire occurred at the assisted living facility's laundry room and maintenance area.

Upon arrival, fire crews coordinated with maintenance staff members who reported a dryer fire. The gas supply to the machine had already been turned off. The fire, confined to the laundry room, was quickly extinguished, and mop-up operations commenced. The gas line was secured to prevent further ignition risks. Crews began ventilation to eliminate residual smoke from the structure, focusing on the maintenance and staff zones. Crews inspected adjoining apartments for any potential hazards, ventilating them as necessary. When an assessment determined there were no lingering gases, additional crews other than two units were released.

The fire was under control at 11:18 am. The last unit cleared the scene at 12:00 pm.

Two stabilized patients were transported to a medical facility for further evaluation as a precautionary measure.

Firefighters from the Rock Crusher, Pine Ridge, Kensington, Hernando, Highlands, and Citrus Springs fire stations arrived on scene, along with two Battalion Chiefs, three Chief Officers, the Fire Marshal, a Safety Captain, and two rescue units.
