William Bonish, 71, of Inglis, FL, was arrested by the Levy County Sheriff's Office, at 9:52 am, June 1, 2024, charged with aggravated battery using a deadly weapon (no bond).
According to the arrest report, the 46 year-old victim met LCSO deputies at the roadway, stating that he and Bonish had gotten into an argument that became physical, and Bonish had struck his hand with a wooden shaft that had nails embedded in it.
The victim told deputies that he'd taken the weapon from Bonish to protect himself. The weapon was lying on the ground nearby, and the victim's hand has puncture wounds consistent with the information he gave deputies.
The report stated that the victim's injuries were consistent with defensive wounds, as if the victim had been attempting to protect his head or torso from injury.
A witness of the incident corroborated the victim's account of the incident. Another person at the residence told deputies she'd been asleep when the incident occurred. Bonish told deputies that he'd picked up the weapon and said to the victim, "I ought to kill you," but he denied striking the victim with it.
The victim was transported to a hospital by emergency medical services for treatment of his injuries.
Justin Ray Bryant, 35, of Morriston, FL, was arrested by the Levy County Sheriff's Office (LCSO), May 30, 2024, charged with three counts of attempted murder, one count of aggravated battery, and burglary of a dwelling (no bond).
According to the LCSO, shortly after 4:00 p.m., the agency's Communications Division received reports of a stabbing that had occurred at a home located on SE 132 Court in Morriston.
Deputies learned that a woman had suffered deep lacerations to the muscles in her neck area, lower face and ear. She said that Bryant had rushed into her home, stabbing and slashing her, and she ran from him as he advanced further into the house where her boyfriend was.
The report stated that the victim's boyfriend suffered a "large laceration" to the front of his neck that was life threatening, and he was in critical condition. He also ran from Bryant to a neighboring house.
Both victims required emergency surgery and were transported by ShandsCair (air transport) to UF Shands Health Hospital in Gainesville, Florida.
At another location, deputies found two other victims. A woman said she was lying in bed when she was struck on her head. The arrest report stated that the weapon was a crowbar. The victim said she remembered waking up in a pool of blood. The arrest report stated that the woman "was lethargic and having issues speaking due to being struck in the head." She also had an approximately one-and-a-half-inch deep laceration to the left side of her face, near her check, that was described by medical staff as being a "permanent disfigurement."
A man at the residence stated that Bryant had walked up to him with a ball pin hammer in his left hand and a tire iron in his right hand, then began striking his head, which caused him to fall to the floor.
These two victim were also transported by ShandsCair to UF Shands Health Hospital in Gainesville.
All four victims stated that the attacks were unprovoked. All were acquainted with Bryant, and none had ever had a problem with Bryant prior to the attacks. According to a press release, all four victims were in stable condition at the time of the press release.
Suspect Bryant was located in a wooded area in the 2800 block of SE 138th Terrace, a short distance from one of the victims' home. He was taken into custody.
During an interview, Bryant told LCSO detectives that he was working for the CIA, and conducting an investigation into multiple people he was attempting to kill that he had “confirmation” on.
LCSO detectives determined that Bryant had been “hanging out” with two of the victims earlier in the day.
A press release stated that detectives pieced together Bryant’s activities from earlier in the day; he'd taken a vehicle from an associate that he drove to a home about a mile away, where he unsuccessfully attempted to steal a side-by-side all-terrain vehicle. Bryant apparently then walked from that location to the victims' homes.
