Inverness fire caused by faulty light involves grass, a fence and a shed

Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR)

Inverness, Florida — At 1:57 am on Sunday, June 2, 2024, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a property located on E. Holly St. in Inverness due to a report of a shed fire. Two people who witnessed the fire notified emergency services about the fire.

A fire crew quickly extinguished the fire, which consisted of a grass fire measuring approximately 50-feet by 75-feet that had ignited and consumed a perimeter privacy fence and extended beyond the property line, and a shed in the back yard that measured 8-feet by 10-feet,

The resident provided information regarding the contents of the shed and the circumstances leading up to the fire incident. 

A rear neighbor reported damage to a fiberglass light pole and surrounding area. Upon investigation, it was determined that the fire was due to an electrical failure from a faulty light post, which resulted in the fire that extended to the surrounding environment.

Citrus County Fire Rescue emphasizes the importance of fire safety and encourages residents to remain vigilant in maintaining their property's electrical systems. Residents are urged to promptly report any signs of electrical malfunction to prevent potential fire incidents.

The fire was brought under control at 2:08 am. After overhaul and mop up, the last unit cleared the scene at 4:55 am.

Firefighters from the Hernando, Highlands, Floral City and Kensington fire stations arrived on scene, along with a Rescue Unit.
