Woman walking across SR 44 in Inverness dies after being struck by car

Inverness, Florida - A 60 year-old woman from Inverness, Florida died as the result of being struck by a vehicle at 6:12 am on Monday, June 3, 2024.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a 61 year-old man from Hernando, Florida was driving a Hyundai Sonata mid-size car, traveling west on State Road 44 (E. Gulf to Lake Hwy.) in Inverness. East of South Shad Terrace, the pedestrian walked across the highway and entered the path of the car. As a result, the woman was struck by the vehicle.
The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the car suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
