In southwest Florida, 80% of the water is supplied by aquifers, which are underground layers of rock and sand that hold water. The local area is within the Southwest Florida Water Management District's North Region, which includes Citrus, Levy, Marion, Hernando, Sumter and Lake counties.
The North Region's aquifer level in percentiles, as of May 31, 2024, was 47%. The previous week was 51%, the same date last year was 41%, and the normal range is 25% to 75%.

Northwest Florida Water Management District
Bay, Calhoun, Escambia, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Leon, Liberty, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Wakulla, Walton and Washington counties, and a portion of Jefferson county.
Suwannee River Water Management District
Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Madison, Suwannee, Taylor and Union counties, and portions of Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Jefferson, Levy and Putnam counties.
St. Johns River Water Management District
Brevard, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Indian River, Nassau, Seminole, St. Johns and Volusia counties, as well as portions of Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Lake, Marion, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola and Putnam counties.
South Florida Water Management District
Broward, Collier, Dade, Glades, Hendry, Lee, Martin, Monroe, Palm Beach and St. Lucie counties, and portions of Charlotte, Highlands, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola and Polk counties.
