Chiefland, Florida - The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred at 10:09 pm on Friday, May 17, 2024, on State Road 320, west of NW 14th Street, within the city limits of Chiefland.
The four occupants of the three vehicles involved in the crash were all residents of Chiefland. All four were wearing a seatbelt.
The first vehicle, a sedan, was driven by the 25 year-old man killed in the crash. He was traveling east on State Road 320.
The other two vehicles - a sedan, followed by a pickup truck - were traveling west on State Road 320.
The driver of the first sedan crossed the center line and traveled directly into the path of the oncoming, second sedan, driven by a 62 year-old man who carried a 52 year-old female passenger, which resulted in the front of the first sedan colliding into the front of the second sedan.
A large piece of debris from the traffic crash struck the front of the pickup truck, driven by a 51 year-old woman, traveling behind the second sedan.
After the collision, the fist sedan left the roadway, overturned onto the south shoulder of State Road 320, where it came to rest, overturned. The driver was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The second sedan came to final rest on the north shoulder of State Road 320; both occupants were seriously injured.
The pickup truck came to a controlled stop on the north shoulder of State Road 320; the driver was not injured.
