National Stroke Awareness Month, May 2024:

It's National Stroke awareness month! The risk of stroke appears to be higher for older adults, especially those with underlying health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, or cardiovascular disease.
Covid-19 can also increase the risk of stroke in older adults. It is known to cause inflammation, and in some cases, can lead to blood clots which can block blood flow to the brain and cause a stroke.

Older Americans Month, May 2024

Established in 1963, Older Americans Month is celebrated each May. Older Americans Month is a time to recognize the ontributions of older adults, highlight trends in aging, and reaffirm commitments to serving older adults in our communities.
During Older American Month, Elder Options will be posting content pertinent to older people on Facebook and Instagram.
“The theme this year is "Powered by Connection," which highlights the importance of social connections on the well-being and health of older adults," said Elder Options CEO Katina Mustipher. "Community engagement and the relationships we make play a huge role in our mental, physical and emotional well-being. This year, Elder Options will be promoting Older Americans Month online, showcasing community classes, where older adults can connect and learn new ways to stay independent. We encourage our community to build new relationships, meet your neighbors, and discover that we are more alike than you think!"
