On April 22, 2024, the Levy County Sheriff's Office announced the passing of retired Patrol K-9 Zombie, a faithful friend and loyal partner to Sgt. Kevin Kinik for nine years.

Upon Zombie's retirement, he remained with Sgt. Kinik and his family, watching over them. He passed peacefully in his sleep on April 13, 2024.

K-9 Zombie was born in the Slovak Republic and began his career in law enforcement when he was purchased from Canine Extreme by the Levy County Sheriff's Office. He was partnered with Sgt. Kinik and was trained in Narcotic Detection and Criminal Apprehension. Sgt. Kinik and Zombie were certified as a team in 2014. This team was assigned to the Patrol Division where they assisted with numerous drug and felony arrests protecting the citizens of Levy County. K-9 Zombie assisted local agencies, performed school searches for narcotics and conducted public demonstrations throughout his nine years of service.

He was a beloved K-9 of the Levy County Sheriff's Office and will be missed.
