In Levy County court on Monday, April 8, 2024, 34 year-old Jerett Joshua Justus of Morriston, Florida pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was sentenced to 25 years in the Florida Department of Corrections (25 years on the murder charge and 15 years on the weapon violation, to run concurrently).
On July 5, 2021, Justus contacted the Levy County Sheriff’s Office, telling deputies that his girlfriend, who was deceased, had shot herself. Justus was arrested, charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
An investigation was conducted into the woman's death, and it was determined that Justus had killed the woman during an argument. On August 16, 2021, Justus with charged with second degree murder.
Justus was incarcerated at the Levy County Detention Bureau in Bronson from July 5, 2021 until April 9, 2024, when he was transpofrted to the Florida Department of Corrections in Lake Butler, Florida to serve his sentence. His current release date is June 28, 2046.

On June 6, 2011, Justus was sentenced to serve 2 years, 10 months and 9 days (06/16/2011 through 09/01/2013) for five felony offenses committed on separate dates during late 2010 in Pinellas County, Florida: two counts of driving with a suspended, revoked or canceled license; fleeing from law enforcement, grand theft of a motor vehicle, and burglary of an occupied dwelling or conveyance.
On Dec. 17, 2018, Justus was sentenced to serve 3 years for aggravated stalking, in violation of a Citrus County, Florida court order, on June 6, 2017; and on April 30, 2018, sentenced to serve 1 year, 9 months and 6 days for grand theft of a motor vehicle in Pinnellas County, Florida on June 19, 2017. Justus served time from 01/29/2019 through 05/08/2020.
No details were available, but acording to the DOC, Justus was detained (not arrested) by the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office (Florida) on 02/01/2019, the Lexington County Sheriff's Office (South Carolina) on 02/06/2019, and the Monroe County Sheriff's Office (Florida) on 06/27/2011.
