Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR)

Lecanto, Florida — At 12:28 pm on Sunday, April 14, 2024, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a residence on West Caraway Place in Lecanto, due to a reported fire.

Firefighters arrivd at the location to find an approximately 1,200 square foot double wide mobile home with heavy smoke coming from the center of the structure.  

A 360-degree inspection of the property was conducted, and the home's utilities were secured. The power company arrived on scene to disconnect power to the residence. Meanwhile, incoming units entered the residence to begin extinguishment activities. 

A search found no one inside the home, and neighbors advised that no one was at the home.   

The fire was brought under control as of 1:01 pm. After overhaul and mop up, the last unit cleared the scene at 2:15 pm. The fire damage was isolated to the kitchen area, with extensive water and smoke damage. No injuries were reported.  

Upon completion of an investigation, the fire is believed to be accidental and appears to have started in the attic. The residence was a total loss. Assistance was offered to the displaced residents, but declined.  

Firefighters from the Connell Heights, Homosassa, Pine Ridge, Kensington, and Hernando fire stations arrived on scene, along with a rescue unit.
