Inglis, Florida - On Saturday, June 10, 2023, at approximately 8:40 p.m., deputies Joe Wilber and Nelson Macias were on patrol in Inglis when they observed a Kia sport utility vehicle (SUV) being operated without headlights. The deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, and during the traffic stop, both deputies smelled the odor of recently burned marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

The press release stated that neither the driver or the passenger of the Kia SUV has a medical marijuana card.

Due to the marijuana smell, the SUV was searched. Inside the vehicle, deputies located a pill bottle inside the driver’s door panel that contained 1.7 grams of marijuana and one oxycodone pill, and 28 grams of methamphetamines hidden inside the center console.

The driver, identified as 52 year-old Carrie Esiel of Inglis, was taken into custody, charged with trafficking in methamphetamine. She was booked into the Levy County Detention Center, with her bond set at $50,000.

No charges were filed on the passenger, who was released at the scene of the traffic stop.
