Levy County Sheriff's Office (LCSO)
Inglis, Florida - Shortly before 1:00 pm on Saturday afternoon, June 10, 2023, Deputy Cody Weaver was on patrol in Inglis when he spotted a vehicle being driven by a person known as an habitual traffic offender.
Deputy Weaver attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but instead of stopping, the driver accelerated the vehicle, turned into a private residential property, and stopped abruptly. The driver and the passenger both exited the vehicle and ran from the vehicle, with Deputy Weaver in pursuit (see a brief in-dash camera video of the pursuit at this link: https://levyso.com/fleeing-suspect-apprehended-with-trafficking-amount-of-meth/).
Deputy Weaver apprehended the fleeing passenger, who was identified a 44 year-old Kitty Collins of Inglis. As Deputy
Weaver was escorting Collins back to his patrol car, he found a discarded black zippered bag and collected it as evidence. Inside the bag, he discovered a baggie that contained 84.5 grams of methamphetamine. Possession of more than 14 grams of amphetamine is considered a trafficking amount of the drug, and if convicted of the offense, Collins could be punished by a seven-year minimum prison sentence, She is being held in the Levy County Detention Bureau on a $120,000 bond.
The driver, whose identity is known but was not released, avoided capture. Deputies are searching for him, and when apprehended, he will face several felony charges.
