Homosasssa, Florida sports a new, 15,500 square foot Hitchcock's Markets grocery store, located at 4516 S. Suncoast Blvd. at the intersection of W. Yulee Dr., next to Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, in the Homosassa Square shopping center. The store opened the first of August, with hours of 7:00 am - 9:00 pm, 7 days per week; phone 352-545-2424. A grand opening will be held later in the month.

In early 2000, the store was a Sweetbay market, then it closed for a number of years before reopening as a Save-A-Lot store, briefly beoming an unsanctioned IGA store, and then for a couple years operated as the Suncoast Marketplace before financial hardship forced the independent grocer to close its doors. Within a few months, Hitchcock's Markets began remodeling the store.

Hitchcock’s Markets opened its first store in 1945, recognizing the need for clean, well-stocked, service-driven food stores with quality products in rural Central Florida towns. In the years since, the Hitchcock's Markets has grown to a small fleet of 12 stores at the following Florida locations: Alachua, East Palatka, Hawthorne, Homosassa, Indiantown, Interlachen, Jasper, Keystone Heights, Newberry, St. Petersburg, Trenton, and Williston. The chain has pharmacies in the Alachua and Newberry stores.

"Today, we are all about offering only the highest quality foods at competitive prices, clean stores and with friendly well trained and knowledgeable employees," the company states on its website. Each employee is tasked with the responsibility to maintain the Hitchcock’s tradition, "To deliver old fashion customer service, have clean and well stocked stores, and offer only the highest quality products and at a competitive price."
