After a 33 year-long career dedicated to law enforcement, Captain David DeCarlo, the Director of Emergency Management at the Citrus County Sheriff's Office (CCSO), has retired.
DeCarlo started his career as a Communications Officer on February 16, 1987 and quickly moved to the position of Deputy Sheriff and later to Investigator. He served as a member of the Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) from 1998 to 2004. With his heart in investigations, Captain DeCarlo was promoted to the rank of Sergeant within the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) in 1998. He continued his service in CID as Lieutenant in 2005 and later, as Captain in 2011. In 2015, Captain DeCarlo began serving as Captain of Emergency Operations, where he remained until his retirement.
During his career, Captain DeCarlo oversaw thousands of investigations, and was a valued mentor to many young employees, leading by example. He was crucial in the development of many new sheriff's office programs, such as the Internet Crimes Against Children. He also served as a member of the Fifth Judicial Circuit's Child Death Review Team, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's Child Abduction Response Team (CART). Captain DeCarlo also plays a large role in Take Stock in Children of Citrus County, helping the youth within the community.
"It is difficult to find an area of our community that has not benefited from the influence and care of Captain David DeCarlo," said Sheriff Mike Prendergast (pictured, left, with Captain DeCarlo in photo on right). "While we wish him a long and healthy retirement, we will truly miss Citrus County's Pasta."
