How unique is Inglis? For that question we need to go to the President of the Commission, Betsy Webb and Commissioners Ann Morin and Tom Brennan to seek answers to their deliberate orchestrated appointment of Mr. James Williams rather than accept the rescind letter from Commissioner William Monteverde. The special meeting on July 20, 2020, was a rush to surround themselves with a “YES” person.
Mr. James Williams is a career Inglis politician who is ingrained / glued to the hip of his fellow Commissioners, Betsy Webb, Anne Morin and Thomas Brennan. Commission President Betsy Webb is counting on the citizens of Inglis to remain silent. Commission President Betsy Webb withheld the fact that Mr. James Williams does not pay his taxes. Yes, that’s correct he does not pay his taxes.
None of this is new since I brought this up several years ago at a town meeting with the same Commissioners present. The details are that Mr. Williams has (4) four current parcels in his (names) in the Town of Inglis. During the tax periods from 2005 through 2019, only (5) five of (60) payments were paid on time. 55 payments were paid by tax certificates by other people for his yearly property tax lien’s. Mr. Williams tax assessments over that period came to $ 67,365.00 dollars, sixty seven thousand three hundred sixty five dollars.
The tax certificate process takes (6) six months to complete on average by Levy County every year. So When Commissioner Thomas Brennan says each month that tax payments, (James Williams 91 % of the time) are coming in slowly. Commission Brennan is speaking directly about folks like James Williams tax certificates. So why reward him with an appointment to the Commission when he was just voted out of office by the citizens of the Town of Inglis!
Mr. James Williams should do the ethical thing Tuesday night and formally not accept the position at the beginning of the meeting
Commission President Betsy Webb, should either reappoint William Monteverde, or award the next highest vote getter, Mr. Steve Schwing to the position at the beginning of the meeting.
                                                                                                         William A. Monteverde, Inglis
