On Thursday, July 21, 2022, the Levy County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) Communications Division received a 911 call that reported a shooting at the Marathon convenience store and gas station located at 5250 NE 140 Court in Williston, Florida. The telecommunicator who answered the call heard the sound of gunshots in the background over the 911 line.

When deputies and detectives arrived on scene, the shooters had already fled from the area. Fortunately, no one was injured during the shooting. Officials obtained a significant amount of video, eyewitness and photographic evidence.

According to Levy County Undersheriff Brett Beauchamp, the investigation revealed that the two victims had gotten into a verbal dispute in the store's parking lot with two Hispanic male suspects (see photo) in regard to who had the right of way around the gas pumps. After the initial dispute, the two suspects left the area in a silver colored Lexus passenger car, but returned a short time later, both armed with handguns. They confronted the victims and fired several rounds at the two victims, but neither was injured. One of the victims was able to take a photograph of the two shooters during the second altercation.

Deputies and detectives obtained surveillance video from the gas station, along with statements from witnesses who were inside the store during the shooting, and others in the neighborhood. LCSO Criminal Analyst Amanda Bruce used video footage of the suspects' vehicle to identify the two shooters as 42 year-old Luis Antonio Perez Carraquillo (on left) and 21 year-old Luis Antonio Perez Franco (on right), who are father and son, said Undersheriff Beauchamp. On July 21, Detective Joe Barrera obtained an arrest warrant for both suspects.

Detectives learned that the two suspects had fled to Orange County, Florida and enlisted the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force. Task Force officers located and arrested both suspects in Orange County on July 29. One handgun was recovered during the arrest.

The shooters remain in custody in Orange County, awaiting transport back to Levy County to each face two counts of attempted murder.

"We appreciate the U.S. Marshals Service and the members of the public who cooperated with the LCSO to get these dangerous suspects off the streets," said Levy County Sheriff Bobby McCallum. "Citizens, pay attention to your surroundings, as a simple trip to the convenience store on that day could have been deadly. "

Any citizen with information regarding any illegal activity is asked to contact the LCSO at 352-486-5111 or 911. Reports can also be made anonymously by phone to CrimeStoppers at 1-877-349-8477.
